PDF Creation Settings
suggested settings for trouble-free printing!

A little history - PDF stands for Portable Document Format and was created by Adobe over 20 years ago. They recognised that there was a desperate need for a simple to use system to 'encapsulate' the text, graphics, layout, colour and fonts of a design from virtually any application into a universally readable file that could be displayed and printed anywhere, on any device.

As with all great ideas the PDF standard has evolved since then, and now it can do far far more then originally envisaged all those years ago.

Unfortunately this means not all PDFs are created equal!

By its very nature Adobe Acrobat (or one of its' clones such as PDF Creator - a superb open-source version) is very flexible. PDFs can be generated as online forms, presentation documents, video holders, etc. - the list can be quite daunting.

So just download our PDF Presettings file CIS_Ltd.joboptions and import into Adobe Acrobat Distiller, InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator (please see the notes below for guidance).

After installation just select CIS_Ltd in the PDF Preset dropdown and you are good to go!

  • Import into InDesign
Start InDesign (you do not need to have any document open) and go to File > Adobe PDF Presets > Define. In Adobe PDF Presets dialog click the Load button and navigate to file with .joboptions extension on your hard drive. Click on the .joboptions file to select it then click Open. When you see the new preset listed in the Presets Section in the top left corner click the Done button to confirm and exit the dialog.
  • Import into Photoshop
Start Photoshop and go to Edit > Adobe PDF Settings. In the Adobe PDF Presets dialog click Load and navigate to the .joboptions file on your hard drive. Click once to select the file and then click the Load button. When Photoshop loads the new preset it will be listed in the Adobe PDF Presets window. Click the Done button to confirm changes and exit the dialog.
  • Import into Illustrator
Start Illustrator and go to Edit > Adobe PDF Presets. In the Adobe PDF Presets window click Import button and navigate to the .joboptions file. Click once on the .joboptions file to select it then click the Open button. Click OK in the upper right corner to confirm changes and exit the dialog.
  • Import into Distiller
Start Distiller and either drag and drop the .joboptions file onto the open Distiller window or go to Settings > Add Adobe PDF Settings, locate the .joboptions file, select it then click Open. It will now be shown under the Default Settings drop-down in the main window.
